A holiday at the museum?

FOR AGES 4–12

A week to explore a theme or a temporary exhibition!

In small groups of 12, by individual booking only.
A snack is provided by the museum’s restaurant and tea room.
All this for an enjoyable experience filled with discovery and a variety of artistic activities.

During one of the two-week holiday periods, from Tuesday to Friday, 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm, our two groups—for 4 to 6-year-olds and 7 to 12-year-olds—can accommodate up to 24 children.

Front view from a low angle – 4 to 6 years old

I study myself for my frontal self-portrait: the shape of my face, distinctive features, tiny, almost invisible details… I don’t miss a thing! I use Odette Pauvert’s tight framing, as well as the frontal perspective in my face and the upper part of my torso. For the background, I play with overlays, layering and staggered arrangements. I play with space. I try my hand at a low-angle shot, just like Odette Pauvert.

By moving back and forth with my double, I am able to capture the essence of reality in my profile self-portrait. A tight frame, a bold frontal pose, an Italian-style bust; I am following in the footsteps of Odette Pauvert. For the background, her low-angle shots inspire me to play with space and create my own world.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow – Ages 4 to 6

I am a child of the 21st century!
But then, how old is *The Boy with the Balloon*, the 1932 portrait of J.P. Dobel by the painter Del Marle, today? Are *The Eggs and the Napkin* by F. Harburger, from 1952, still as fresh as ever? And have R. Bugatti’s Two Marabouts taken flight? Is a taffeta dress from the early 20th century still just as dazzling? Degradation, movement, wear and tear, ageing, fading… How can the passing of time be captured in images?

The Passing of Time – Ages 7 to 12

The people, animals, objects and textiles in our collections span the ages.
What if time had truly taken its toll on the children in the Childhood Gallery, on F. Joffre’s *The Athlete*, on F. Pompon’s *The Great Stag*, or on a dress from our fashion section? Whether in the short term or the long term… Movement, transformation, ageing, signs of wear, deterioration and fading creep in, seeping into the objects, figures or animals.
Time passes.

Let’s look up! – Ages 4–6 in JULY / Ages 7–12 in AUGUST

Spring, summer, autumn, winter. Four seasons, four atmospheres, but a single perspective. Let’s look up! Cloudy, bright, rainy or stormy skies. Bluish, purplish or pinkish skies. Tree branches bare or laden with buds and flowers. Winter or autumnal hues. Branches bending under the weight of green or orange leaves.
A change of perspective! Let’s look up to discover the four seasons!

Bricklaying – 4 to 6 years old in AUGUST / 7 to 12 years old in JULY

A real brick as a medium for creation. A three-dimensional factory made of clay, where the brick is our building block. A brick reworked through drawing, painting and glazing, like those in Albert Baert’s swimming pool. A brick on which designs are carved or stamped. A brick that becomes a pattern, an imprint. It multiplies and overlaps to form a tangle from which, through chance, a city made of bricks will emerge.
